Lisa Walsh, anatomy and physiology course lab instructor at the University of Waterloo School of Pharmacy, was unanimously voted for the 2024 Excellence in Pharmacy Teaching Award in recognition of her student-focused approach to instruction.

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) announced funding for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships 2023-2024. Waterloo Pharmacy alum and current postdoctoral fellow at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), Dr. Cindy Hoi Ting Yeung (PhD’23, Dr. Andrea Edginton’s Lab) was ranked 13 out of the 182 researchers for her work on Advancing towards model-informed precision dosing: Ontogeny and pharmacogenetics of commonly used drugs in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Nicholas Cheng, Waterloo Pharmacy MSc student didn’t expect his side project, Entomatia, to launch another side project – repurposing the discarded insect shells for consumer detection of lead in water at home.
The 2023 CPJ Best Paper Award went to Waterloo Pharmacy researchers Sherilyn Houle, Wasem Alsabbagh and Nancy Waite who found a solution to assist the public and pharmacists in encouraging vaccination uptake in their study, Herpes zoster and human papillomavirus vaccination opportunities identified using electronic prompts at the time of scheduling influenza or COVID-19 vaccines.

The Pharmasave Business Competition awards a third-year Waterloo School of Pharmacy student team a $5,000 prize for an innovative business model in the field of pharmacy. Students work in teams to develop a startup that solves a current health care issue aligned with Ontario health care regulations and pitch their ideas to a panel of pharmacists, entrepreneurs and financial advisors.
GRADflix, hosted by University of Waterloo’s Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs, gives graduate students the opportunity to showcase their research by creating a one-minute video or animation.
