Physics Lab Days at UWaterloo

Students performing experiments with a plasma ball

Available every year in December and in April, grade 11 and 12 physics classes will engage in Physics lab stations specially designed to ignite their curiosity and to encourage them to make connections between various aspects of Physics.

Physics Lab Days offers an engaging two-hour program brimming with interactive and hands-on learning opportunities. Our lab activities encompass both curriculum-aligned experiments and glimpses of the exciting challenges that await students at the university level. Every experiment is designed to stimulate your students' critical thinking and expand their intellectual horizons.

For those looking to extend the experience into a full day of exploration, we provide a range of supplementary activities. You can opt for a workshop hosted at the Institute for Quantum Computing, embark on campus tours, or partake in an informative Q&A session, delving into the university life experience.

Available dates: Weekdays from April 11th - 24th.
The target audience for this programming is grade 11/12 Physics students.
Group size: two groups of 25 students a day, for a maximum of 50 students.
Teacher/supervisor is required to stay with each group.

The form is now open for April Lab Days. Teachers can expect to be contacted with dates by mid-February.

Physics Lab Days provides six curriculum-relevant, experiential learning stations for high school students to explore different phenomena in an undergraduate laboratory setting. Each session lasts about two hours.

Our preferred schedule offers a morning session beginning at 9:00  (AM) and an afternoon session starting at 1:00 (PM), though we are willing to accommodate minor changes in timing. Please give us as much information about your day as possible to help us with your itinerary.

We cannot accommodate lab sessions for groups larger than 30, and we will be running 2 sessions per day. Your school can book a full-day visit for groups of up to 60 students (absolute max).
