Whether you're just starting your journey in a physics program or navigating the upper years of your degree, our academic advising team at UWaterloo is here to help you succeed!
If you're a first-year student, your academic advising home is with the Science Undergraduate Office (SUO). Their team will guide you through your first year, helping you choose courses, understand program requirements and adjust to university life.
Once you've completed first year, your Physics Undergraduate Advisors become your main point of contact for academic support. We're here to help you plan your courses, navigate program requirements, connect with resources, and make the most of your time in your physics program. Our goal is to make sure you feel supported every step of the way and to ensure you do your part as well.

How can we help?
Heather and Maya, our core academic advisors, can help you with any of the following or direct you to a program-specific faculty advisor for more in-depth consultations:
- Courses: Offerings, Selection, Enrolment, Overrides
- Academic Progression: Standings, Degree Checks
- Program: Plan Modifications, Work-Study Sequence Changes
- Administration: Important Dates, Administrative Procedures
- University Resource Awareness: Student Success, Counselling Referrals, Finances, etc.
In person drop-ins or emails are welcome!
To avoid duplication, please send email to only one of the undergraduate advisors.
Program-Specific Faculty Advisors
Sometimes, you might have questions that are closely tied to your specific program or that would be best discussed with a faculty member who teaches and works in that area. These program-specific Faculty Academic Advisors can offer guidance on:
- Exploring courses or research opportunities within their area of expertise
- Discussing academic or career pathways connected to your program
- Sharing insights about specialized topics or fields of study in physics
For questions that would benefit from a program-specific perspective, please click on your program below to visit its page and connect with your Academic Advisor.
If you’re unsure whether your question is best for the Physics Undergraduate Advisors or your program-specific Academic Advisor, start with Heather or Maya. They can help you directly or connect you with the right person.
