General
The University provides waste collection services across campus locations to support waste diversion and the effective management of campus waste streams. Service levels, frequencies, and responsibilities may vary by location, building type, operational requirements, occupancy patterns, and available resources.
Service schedules are subject to change and may be adjusted periodically in response to operational needs, health and safety requirements, special events, facility usage, staffing levels, or other circumstances.
In Public Spaces
Indoor waste receptacles located in public spaces across all campuses are serviced by Plant Operations in accordance with custodial service schedules and operational requirements. Some locations may be serviced by other service providers and are therefore subject to separate service arrangements. Examples include Campus Housing, Affiliated University Colleges, Grad House, Grounds facilities, and other designated non-service locations.
Food Locations
Waste and recycling generated in publicly accessible dining and cafeteria areas are serviced by Plant Operations Custodial Services.
Waste, recycling, organics, and other materials generated within food preparation, kitchen, servery, or back-of-house operations are typically the responsibility of the operating department, contractor, or service provider. These groups are responsible for managing materials in accordance with applicable University procedures, health and safety requirements, and waste-sorting guidelines. Materials from these operational areas should be deposited into outdoor[WU1.1] designated collection containers or disposal locations appropriate to each waste stream.
Offices (Excluding non-service locations such as Campus Housing, etc.)
Shared Office Areas
Plant Operations services approved large multi-stream receptacles located in shared office spaces in accordance with applicable custodial service levels and schedules.
Private Offices
Designated office waste containers are serviced in accordance with established custodial service levels and schedules.
Cleaning and maintenance of personal waste and recycling containers may be provided in accordance with custodial service schedules and operational practices. Service frequency may vary.
Outdoor Areas
Outdoor waste and recycling receptacles are serviced by Plant Operations Grounds staff in accordance with applicable Grounds service schedules and operational requirements.
For temporary event spaces, including outdoor tented areas, waste receptacles used inside an outdoor tented area are serviced by Custodial staff.
