The University of Waterloo’s main campus spans approximately 1,000 acres and includes more than 75 buildings and extensive green spaces. When environmentally protected and research-designated lands are included, the total area managed by the institution increases to more than 1,200 acres, in addition to the satellite campuses in Cambridge, Kitchener, and Stratford.
The Grounds team collaborates closely with campus partners to support sustainable land management practices and contributes to a range of institution-wide sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining campus green spaces, including turf areas, horticultural beds, and naturalized landscapes.
- Managing water courses and water features and related environmental systems, such as water level control, erosion mitigation, and stormwater pond maintenance.
- Providing general upkeep of exterior surfaces, including roads and walkways, and assisting with minor asphalt and interlock repairs and drainage maintenance.
- Maintaining outdoor recreational and athletic fields, including turf specific work and field layout, line painting, and procurement/installation of field equipment.
- Collecting waste and recycling from all exterior receptacles.
- Supporting special campus events, including barricade setup, deployment and servicing of outdoor waste/recycling units, and placement of outdoor furniture.
- Carrying out repairs to exterior fencing as required.
- Conducting winter operational activities related to snow and ice management.
