Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada’s largest research and technology organization. 

We are looking for a Technical Officer, Advanced Devices to support our Advanced Electronics and Photonics (AEP) Research Center. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

This position will focus on providing technical process support for semiconductor prototype development and pre-commercial production in a clean-room environment. The incumbent will be involved in hands-on fabrication and problem solving research and development activities while maintaining high standards of quality to support client needs.

The incumbent works as a member of the fabrication team producing photonic and electronic devices, using a variety of tools under the guidance of the Team Leader and Research Officers.

Screening Criteria

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education

Post-secondary education in a technical, engineering or scientific discipline related to the position.

Experience

  • Significant hands-on experience in semiconductor device fabrication within an R&D or manufacturing environment. 
  • Significant experience monitoring semiconductor fabrication processes including the use of characterization equipment. 
  • Significant experience compiling data, using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) software or databases and presenting results in a clear manner.
  • Solid experience in plasma enhanced chemical vapor (PECVD) deposition of thin films  
  • Solid experience in reactive ion etching (RIE) of semiconductor materials using various chemistries. 
  • Solid experience in inductively coupled plasma etch (ICP-RIE) of semiconductor materials using various chemistries
  • Experience in Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) would be considered an asset

Assessment Criteria

Candidates will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

Technical Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of semiconductor device fabrication and characterization equipment and their operation in a cleanroom environment; 
  • Advanced knowledge of safe practices for working with chemicals, compressed gases, liquid nitrogen, and electrical, mechanical, and vacuum systems; 
  • Ability to accurately interpret technical direction from a variety of sources including process work flows and standardized procedures; 
  • Ability to set priorities and manage time to maximize productivity.
  • Advanced knowledge of operation and use of plasma deposition and etch tools, Scanning electron Microscope (SEM), and associated metrology equipment. 
  • Solid knowledge of Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) would be considered an asset.

Relocation

Compensation

From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
