On Friday, August 21, the Renison community had the honour of coming together to celebrate the life and lasting legacy of Eva LeFlar, whose generosity and commitment to supporting young people continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Renison students.
Eva dedicated her life to supporting and improving the lives of young people, particularly those facing financial barriers to pursuing their education. She believed deeply in creating opportunities for students and helping them access the support they needed to succeed.
That commitment continues today through the Eva LeFlar Foundation, which has contributed more than $245,000 to support Renison students to date. Through scholarships and financial assistance, the Foundation has helped students focus on their education, pursue their goals, and make the most of their time at Renison.
To recognize Eva’s remarkable contributions and the lasting relationship between the Eva LeFlar Foundation and Renison, members of our community gathered for the unveiling of a plaque in her honour. The plaque is located beside the entrance doors of the Rees Community Lounge, where it will serve as a permanent reminder of Eva’s generosity and the many students whose lives have been touched by her legacy.
We were honoured to be joined for the occasion by Eva LeFlar Foundation President Jim Frizzell, Treasurer Dave Kirkness, Gale Repta, Josie Joseph, and scholarship recipients Sue Weare and Nadia Schafer. Their presence made the celebration especially meaningful and helped us reflect on the impact Eva’s generosity continues to have across generations of Renison students.
The unveiling was an opportunity not only to remember Eva, but also to celebrate the enduring power of philanthropy and the difference one person’s commitment to helping others can make.
Through the students who have been given opportunities, overcome financial barriers, and pursued their education with the support of the Eva LeFlar Foundation, Eva’s legacy continues to live on at Renison.
