Before Requesting a Prerequisite Override or Joining a Waitlist
Many enrolment issues can be resolved without an override. Before submitting a request, please:
-
Confirm that you meet all course prerequisites.
-
Check that you have not exceeded your term course load limit.
-
Review your program requirements and academic standing.
-
Ensure there are no holds on your Quest account.
-
Verify that the course is being offered in the term you wish to enrol.
If you continue to experience enrolment difficulties after completing these steps, review the override options below.
Language Assessments
Some language courses require a placement assessment before students can enrol.
Students wishing to enrol in Arabic or Chinese courses at Renison must complete the appropriate language assessment:
Assessment results are used to determine the most appropriate course level. Students should complete language assessments well in advance of enrolment deadlines to allow sufficient time for review and placement.
Students with previous knowledge of Japanese or Korean should contact Renison Registrarial Services to request a placement assessment. Students with no prior experience in Japanese or Korean may enrol directly in the appropriate 101R course if space is available.
Prerequisite Override
A prerequisite override may be considered when you have completed equivalent coursework or believe you have the necessary academic background to succeed in the course. The most up-to-date prerequisite information for undergraduate courses can be found in the Undergraduate Calendar. Students are encouraged to review course requirements before submitting a prerequisite override request.
Please note:
- Approval is at the discretion of the instructor and the Director of the applicable school.
- Supporting documentation may be required.
- Approval of a prerequisite override does not guarantee a seat in the course if the class is full.
Waitlist Instructions
If an eligible course section listed above is full, students may submit a waitlist request to be considered should a space become available.
To add yourself to the waitlist for a Renison course, please follow the steps below:
How to Submit a Request
- Complete a separate form for each course section for which you wish to be waitlisted.
- Ensure all required fields are filled in. Incomplete submissions cannot be processed.
- Do not submit duplicate requests. Multiple submissions for the same course will not improve your chances and may delay processing.
Important Notes
- Only submit requests for sections listed above. Requests for courses or sections that are not eligible for waitlisting will not be processed.
- Submitting a waitlist request does not guarantee that a space will become available or that you will be enrolled in the course.
- Co-op students: If the waitlisted course is your second course during a co-op term, we cannot reserve a space for you even if you're next on the list. Second courses can only be added one week before classes begin.
- Removing yourself from a waitlist: If you no longer wish to remain on a waitlist, please email renison.regservices@uwaterloo.ca to request removal.
- No phone requests: Renison does not accept course enrolment or waitlist requests by phone.
Processing Times
Available spaces are reviewed and filled manually as they become available throughout the enrolment period. Students are added in the order requests are received, subject to enrolment eligibility and course availability. During peak enrolment periods, requests may take several business days to process. Students are encouraged to monitor their University of Waterloo email account regularly, as this is how decisions and follow-up requests will be communicated. Please do not send follow-up emails requesting updates on your waitlist status or position in the queue, as responding to these inquiries can delay processing for all students.
