At the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF), we're not training accounting and financial professionals. We're inspiring the next generation of leaders who will help drive change in all areas of society by redefining what it means to be an accounting and financial professional.
SAF's world-class faculty, standard-setting curriculum and research, wealth of experiential learning opportunities attract inquisitive and agile minds who think like an entrepreneur to identify new opportunities, solve complex problems and make courageous business and financial decisions. SAF offers four distinct undergraduate programs to bring unique perspectives to business problems. SAF alum cooks up a gourmet startup alongside a Michelin-trained chef
Seasoned entrepreneur Ian Weng (MAcc ’13) began his career at KPMG in audit and advisory services after graduating from the Master of Accounting program. While at KPMG he gained a breadth of knowledge and obtained his CPA, CA designation. Like many University of Waterloo alums, however, he caught the entrepreneurship bug and wanted to create something—so he ended up leaving KPMG to start his first tech startup called ChopChop.
Grindr Names New CFO as Dating App Operator Prepares to Go Public
SAF congratulates alum, Vanna Krantz, as she leads Grindr as their new CFO.
Grindr LLC named a former Walt Disney Co. executive as its next chief financial officer as the firm behind the dating app plans to go public through a combination with a special-purpose acquisition company later this year.

Introducing the International Study Trip corporate relations team
Welcome to the Winter 2023 trip to Singapore! This term, our class has been divided into four teams; corporate relations, meals and logistics, management, and marketing and culture. We are the corporate relations team, coming to you from the International Study Trip classroom! Our team consists of Alan, Aryaman, Ryan, and Vireshaar. We are incredibly excited to have you along with us for this trip.
Exploring and learning about internal audit in a new course
If you have ever been unsure of what course to take, then you aren’t alone! At first, I was unsure about what courses to enroll in, but I decided to go for the Internal Audit course (SAF 415), as I had no prior knowledge of the subject, and I wanted to learn about audit from a new perspective.
Setting yourself up to Excel
In early December, I had the chance to participate in the finals for the Microsoft Excel Collegiate Challenge hosted by the University of Arizona, and it’s something I encourage every student to sign up for next year. It served as a great chance to hone my Excel skills, network with top financial modelers in university and abroad, not to mention I was able to escape the snow for a few days
