Hey everyone! I’m a 1A student

who has just completed my first term at the University of Waterloo in the Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) program. With everything going on, it was a unique experience to say the least, but thanks to the hard work of the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF), I was able to make the best out of the circumstance and still create a memorable first term.

As a member of the SAF’s Fellowship Program, I had the privilege of attending a multitude of different events and programs run by the School. I had an amazing time meeting different alumni, guest speakers and leaders in the business world who all have a tremendous amount of knowledge and experiences. In the Fellowship Program, community and networking are a core focus and being able to get close to my Honouree and mentor has allowed me to gain new perspectives on my studies and the business world as a whole.

The Fellowship Program has definitely been one of the best parts of being at SAF and a contributing factor in why I decided to come to the AFM program. Being a Fellow has opened me up to opportunities that I wouldn’t have found anywhere else. I have been able to connect with upper year students and alumni and learned under their guidance. Recently, I had the privilege of attending the annual Fellowship Program Café which is an event held every year by SAF where students, alumni and faculty members are invited to spend time together, celebrating the year that they had. Usually, it would happen in person and everyone would gather at a set location, but due to the pandemic, this was deemed impossible. Luckily, through the hard work and dedication of SAF, they were able to host this event virtually and we were still able to get a similar experience had it been in person.

During this wonderful event, I was able to have conversations about all sorts of issues and topics and it was an amazing time getting to know everyone and learning from their experiences. I was able to ask questions about work, co-op and the different opportunities available only at Waterloo which broadened my horizon and allowed me to explore outside the traditional path. Through these conversations, I was able to get a better grasp of my future at Waterloo. It was truly a memorable time and a great way to end off the term and I am extremely excited for the future of the Fellowship Program!
