Transitioning from high school to university, Alina carried the same mindset that once defined her idea of success, but that approach quickly led to burnout. She realized that to her, success isn't about meeting impossible expectations, it's about having the courage to choose what's right for you, even when the path looks different from others. 

When Alina first started her post-secondary career, she was terrified of networking events. But with the encouragement from friends, teammates and professors, she slowly built the confidence to put herself out there.

This growth followed her to her first co-op role, where asking questions and making connections helped her learn, build relationships, and truly enjoy the experience. 

Four Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) students, one global debt problem, and a mission to find the story within the numbers. That’s exactly what our team - Joel, Nate, Tim, and Callum – set out to do at the 2025 Manhattan Business Analytics Competition (MBAC). 

As part of the Winter 2024 AFM334 International Study Course, the class has been hard at work preparing for our trip to Zurich and Geneva at the end of April.

The International Study Course is offered to upper-year students and enables them to meet with companies and business professionals abroad, helping them to learn more about the global business landscape and further enhance the knowledge they gain in the classroom.

Since I moved from Hong Kong at fourteen years old, finding “home” in a new country was a scary thing. With time and new experiences, I have learned to be independent, gained intercultural skills, and developed curiosity for the people and things around me. Starting university at Waterloo was a learning curve too (with co-op as well).
