Networking and Communications

Learn how to connect and make a great impression during job interviews, networking events, or even everyday interactions.  Catharine Dutt has gained her expertise in communication through her senior team leadership roles in consulting, where she has learned to talk and to listen to people.  Sharing ideas and then also drawing out the ideas and insights of others is key.  Catharine has worked both in the Public Accounting landscape and in banking.  Currently, Catharine, a SAF alumni,  is a Partner in the Enterprise Risk Services group in MNP’s Toronto Office.

Achieving High Performance

Chris Janzen of The Ignition Co. provides students with a practical and proven approach to sustaining high performance in the University environment.  The energy management strategies that Chris shares work in the academic and the co-op terms. The session will challenge your thinking on what it takes to achieve your best and experience satisfaction in the process.  Grounded in science, you will learn principles and ideas to successfully replenish your energy to benefit of your mindset, stress levels, and focus.

Introduction to Co-op

The Co-op components of the SAF programs are key for many students.  Lynn Graham will map out for you what the Co-op path looks like in years one and two, taking you right through the first job search in 2A.  Lynn is one of the members of SAF’s Co-op Team, and beyond the conference session, Lynn is available to meet during office hours or to take individual questions.  The session is an intro to Co-op, so with further co-op or career conversations, just send an email to Lynn.

The team from Surmesur will guide you in presenting your professional self, as you begin this next exciting chapter of your life.  Your wardrobe will go from classrooms to boardrooms, and friend hang-outs to networking sessions as you are a co-op student.  Learn how to style your outfit to suit you in any setting. Prepare to be inspired as this session walks you through how to present a powerful first impression and leave a lasting one.

Upper Year SAF students will review resumes, helping you to see what you want to say about yourself in this document.  Resumes have formats but also room for your skills and experiences to shine.  Learn how to describe your demonstrated skills in bullet point sentences.  Bring along a copy of your resume if you want to participate in this session.
