Engineering, DEAN: Mary Wells

Ranked among the top 50 engineering schools worldwide, Waterloo is committed to leading engineering education and research in Canada. Waterloo Engineering is the largest, with more than 9,500 students enrolled in 2016. In 2016/2017, external research funding in engineering exceeded $64 million from Canadian and international partners, a strong indication of the excellence of our research programs.

Environment, DEAN: Bruce Frayne

For more than 40 years the Faculty of Environment has been dedicated to having a positive impact locally and globally. With interdisciplinary programs and researchers we make meaningful change happen in the classroom, the office, and in communities around the world. Our vision is to use our unique position as a leading teaching and research institute for the environment to create sustainable solutions needed to address the complex challenges facing our world.

Mathematics, DEAN: Mark Giesbrecht

The Faculty of Mathematics has the largest concentration of mathematical and computer science talent in the world. Perhaps the best testimony to Waterloo’s standing and exceptional reputation is the quality and many achievements of the Faculty’s teachers, researchers, alumni and students. With more than 7,000 graduate and undergraduate students, more than 200 full-time professors, and 500 courses in mathematics, statistics and computer science, the Faculty is a powerhouse of discovery and innovation. 

Science, DEAN: Chris Houser

Chris Houser is the Dean of Science at the University of Waterloo and the tenth dean since the Faculty was founded in 1957. Prior to joining the University of Waterloo, he was Dean of Science at the University of Windsor (2016-2022) and Interim Vice President Research and Innovation (2022-2023). Houser joined the University of Windsor from Texas A&M University where he was the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Geosciences (2014-2016), and the inaugural Global Faculty Ambassador in the Office of the Provost (2011 to 2016).
