Candidate Statements - Mathematics

Raouf Boutaba

Professor, and Director of the Cheriton School of Computer Science

I have served in various administrative positions at UW and I would like to further engage and deepen my commitment to academic decision making and oversight by serving on Senate. I can bring a useful perspective to the debates about the university's strategies and policies that also often happen at Senate. One particular aim is adding diversity to the opinions voiced. Last not least, I believe that I would be an effective representative of faculty members in these debates and decisions by listening to and respecting different points of view.

Cecilia Cotton

Associate Dean of Mathematics, Undergraduate Studies

I am pleased to be considered as a Faculty Representative to Senate for the Faculty of Mathematics. Since joining the faculty in 2009 I have served in various roles including on the FAUW Council of Representatives, Salary Anomaly Working Group (2020, 2015), Associate Chair Undergraduate, and am currently the Associate Dean Undergraduate Studies in math. I have enjoyed the opportunity these roles gave me to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues from across campus. I am eager to do the same on Senate to support the university’s mission and continue to advance teaching and research at our world-class institution.

Kevin Hare

Professor – Pure Mathematics

I am a Professor in the Pure Mathematics department. I am finishing my first term as a faculty-at-large senator and am seeking re-election to serve a second term. I have served in many administrative capacities in the past, include Associate Dean Operations & Academics for the Faculty of Mathematics, as well as Interim Dean of Math during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. I feel that I have valuable experience to bring to Senate, and I wish to continue to serve in this capacity.
