Join the Sustainability Office for Zero Waste Week to reduce your material footprint and support our campus goal of becoming a zero waste campus by 2035. To support this transition, Waterloo has developed a Zero Waste UW Action Plan with initiatives in 5 key areas.

We're encouraging you to take the Zero Waste Challenge for the week, and have a number of events and activities to support you!

Waste Week 2021: Rethinking Waste

Did you know that waste contributes to climate change? The decomposition of organics, packaging and other garbage in landfills produces a significant amount of methane, which is a greenhouse gas 28 times for potent than carbon dioxide. Additionally, non-organic material and the production of resources is a significant source of emissions which end up as waste.

Zero Waste Fair + Free Store Launch

Join the Sustainability Office and Plant Operations - Environmental Services for their second annual Zero Waste Fair. Learn more about programs and resources that are supporting our journey to become a zero-waste campus, including the first official Free Store pop-up. Plus, the first 150 people to bring a reusable mug will get FREE COFFEE.
