Work term reports

Students in Systems Design Engineering (SYDE) and Biomedical Engineering (BME) are required to submit three work term reports as part of the co-op degree designation.

SYDE students who were in 1A in Fall 2011 or after, and all BME students must submit work term reports in the following terms:

Report Due
WKRPT 200 2B
WKRPT 300 3A
WKRPT 400 4A

Deadline for submission

Work term reports are due by 4:00 p.m. (ET), one week after the first official day of class in the academic term in which the report is required. For example, if lectures start Monday then your report is due the following Monday by 4:00 p.m (ET).

Work term reports must be submitted as a PDF to the dropbox in the appropriate WKRPT LEARN site. You will be automatically enrolled into the LEARN site (e.g. 2B students will be enrolled in WKRPT 200) and it will open on the first day of class.

Request an extension

To request an extension on your work term report, complete the Work Report Extension Request form and submit it to the work term report coordinator for approval. The request should be made before the work term report is due.

Without approval from the work term report coordinator, late reports will either be deducted a full grade lower than if the report was submitted on time, or be rejected and result in a failure. A failed work term report is included in the failed course count.

Instructions

Work term report instructions are provided in the Content section of the SYDE-BME Community LEARN site. Students have the option to write a project-based report or a skills-based report. Employer-marked confidential reports are no longer accepted.

Work term report grades

Each work report will receive one of the following grades: 95 (A+), 89 (A), 75 (B), 65 (C), 38 (unacceptable), or resubmit.

A report marked “unacceptable” means that the report does not meet work report requirements or the standards required by the department. Since the work term report is treated as a course, this failure is counted in the failed course count, and the failure must be cleared by submitting an acceptable report by the first week of the 4B term.

A report marked “resubmit” means that the report can be suitably revised. The student can make the corrections as outlined by the marker and resubmit the revised report to be remarked. The report must be submitted no later than the final day of lectures or it will receive a failed grade. The maximum grade for a resubmit is 65.

Enterprise co-op work term report

If you elect to take an enterprise co-op (e co-op) work term, a work term report is still required. Discuss your idea for your work term report with your mentor and the e co-op coordinator, and then contact the work term report coordinator for final approval.

Missed work term

If you are unemployed during a scheduled work term, you can still write a work term report on a topic that is approved by the work term report coordinator. Contact the coordinator to discuss your topic.

Going on exchange

If you will be on exchange during a term for which a work report is due, you must submit the work report before you leave. If you do not have a work term prior to when the exchange begins, please inform the work term report coordinator. If this has not been done and a report is not submitted, a failed grade will be assigned.
