Seminar: A journey from Systems Design Engineering to Sustainability at Google and Nike

Winnie Lam is the Senior Director of Sustainability Technology at Nike. She is responsible for technology platforms to make Nike’s shoes and apparel more environmentally sustainable. Prior to joining Nike, Winnie held various leadership roles at Google in sustainability and product management, over an 18 year tenure. She led initiatives that vastly reduced the water, chemicals and diesel fuel consumption at Google’s data centers.
As a champion for animals, Winnie championed the banning of elephant ivory being sold through Google, as elephants are poached for their ivory tusks. She partnered with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to form the Global Coalition to End Wildlife Trafficking Online, uniting big tech companies globally to end the sale of endangered wildlife products online.
Winnie received her Bachelor of Science in Systems Design Engineering from the University of Waterloo, where she was recognized with a Distinguished Alumni Award from United College for “an exemplary career, dedication to sustainability and service to community". Winnie earned her Master of Science in Energy Policy and Climate from Johns Hopkins University.
