The 3MT is a university-wide competition for research-based master’s thesis and doctoral students. As a competitor, they will have 1 slide and 3 minutes to explain their research to a non-specialist audience.
This year we will be running our own department-level heat on February 10th at 1:30 pm in E5-6004 with prizes and a winner moving on to the university-wide competition.

Come learn how GM Canada is transforming Canada’s auto sector through growth, technological advances and innovation. Four of GM’s leading engineers will be sharing insights at this GM Canada Meet-up for Waterloo Engineering students on the Capstone Design track.
You are invited back to campus to the Systems Design Engineering Symposium-day lunch. This year is extra special: the department was officially formed in 1968, so it's their 50th Birthday this year!
Join us for a complimentary lunch (and maybe a bit of birthday cake), exclusively for systems design engineering alumni, where Dr. Ning Jiang, a recently hired professor in Systems Design and the Director of the Waterloo Engineering Bionics Lab, will speak on cutting-edge research in the area of human-machine interfaces. Indeed, such interfaces have a very likely possibility of affecting nearly all of us, embedded in every corner of our society: at work, at home, on the road, in classrooms, hospitals, and gymnasiums. Such human-machine interfaces can be already found in a vast array of different sectors including manufacturing, rehabilitation, fitness tracking, office ergonomics, entertainment, law enforcement, and defense, in the form of prostheses, orthoses, wearable fitness bracelets, sensorized garments, and exoskeletons.
Following lunch and the research overview of Professor Jiang, you will be invited to the System Design Capstone Design Symposium at the Davis Centre where you can spend the rest of the afternoon (or as much time as you'd like) connecting with current 4th year students who will display their design projects until 5pm.
Parking: Lot C and Lot Q are available for entry by coin or credit card at a rate of $5 per day.
