Connections Program

The Connections Program is designed to help new University of Waterloo students make a smooth transition to university by connecting them with new friends in a vibrant living learning community. It is open to students from all six UWaterloo faculties.

How It Works

The Connections Program links two related first-year electives together, one in the Fall Semester and one in the Winter Semester. Registration in the two courses is limited to the same group of 25 students, creating an intimate and ongoing academic community.

In addition, all students in Connections live together at United College, further cementing their identity as a community.

And since all the Connections students share the same residence, the professors can arrange for special class activities over a nice meal at Watson’s. Optional special events will also take place at the College in the evening (film nights, board games, karaoke etc)

Connections 24

The Connections Program that begins in September of 2024 will feature these two courses:

CDNST 101   Introduction to Canadian Studies (course number 8278 - Fall Semester)

INDG 201     The Indigenous Experience in Canada  (Winter Semester)

As a pair, these two connected courses provide an outstanding opportunity for Canadians to better understand their own country and for International Students to become better acquainted with the land that will be their home for the next few years.

CDNST 101 and INDG 201 can be counted as electives in any program at UW.

Instructors

CDNST 101 is taught by Dr. Richard Myers.  Dr. Myers is the Principal of United College and the author of one of the leading textbooks on Canadian political institutions.

INDG 201  is taught by Dr. Sarah General.  Dr. General is a member of the Six Nations of the Grand River and serves as the Coordinator of the Indigenous Studies programming at the University of Waterloo.
