Fitting in at United
Our residence community is small with 315 students living in residence per term. Living at United means that you will be living in a place where you can always find a friend in the hallway or sitting in the cafeteria to eat with. There are a wide variety of activities and special events hosted weekly catering to many different interests.
Dons are upper-year students that live with you in residence, and they have first-hand experience with the highs and lows of university life. Dons at United College are hired to help foster a positive residence experience that is conducive to successful academic study and personal development. United's Dons host regular floor and college-wide events to help bring students together and create a positive and inclusive residence atmosphere.
United College has a 1:24 don-to-student ratio. There will be a Residence Life Staff member available 24/7.
Get involved!
Do you enjoy running fun events? Are you interested in coming up with ideas, or helping out? United has a variety of leadership opportunities, including the Activities Council Executive (ACE), the United GreenTeam, and the Inter-college Council (ICC).
If you’re looking to get involved in a more casual way, stay tuned for the United Get Involved Fair during the first week of each term!
Studying at United
Quiet hours are enforced at night and during exam times there is a significant extension to the quiet hours.
There is a quiet study lounge available to students, the Jackman Reading Room and many study rooms where students can work. In United's Living Learning Communities, there are peer leaders available to support students with academics.
Safety
United is located right on campus and as close as 3 minutes to the nearest academic building - Environment 3. Each residence wing is locked and only accessible by students living in that wing by unlocking the door with their key fob. The main building doors are locked down at 8 pm daily.
Our campus is monitored at key entry points by a security camera.
The Residence Life Team is available 24/7 for student and don support.
Community rules are clearly specified and enforced for everyone's safety. University of Waterloo Police are on campus at all times and provide quick responses to any situation.
Eating at United
Residents participate in an all-you-can-eat meal plan at Watson's Eatery. There is a rotating meal plan that offers a variety of options daily. Check out this weeks menu!
Co-op and Residence
United's residence is open for all three terms at the University of Waterloo (Fall, Winter and Spring). Students residence contracts will be for the terms that they are in classes - meaning you can coordinate your schedule with your co-op terms.
