Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director of External Relations, the Communications Officer is responsible for the administrative, communications, outreach, and event support required to raise the profile of United College, foster engagement, and enhance key relationships (ex. alumni, donors, friends, prospective students). Generating content for various communications channels (ex. social media, website, newsletters) is a priority of this position. This position is part of the External Relations team.
Grade: G ($56,858 - $71,073)

Job Tasks:
- Generates regular content for United College social media platforms, keeping all accounts up-to-date, active, and engaging. This is a key priority of this position.
- Initiates and produces content for website and newsletters, highlighting United College programs, activities, student life, alumni achievements, etc. This is a key priority of this position.
- Responsible for maintaining United College website to reflect changing priorities and staff/faculty feedback.
- Collaborates with the Director of External Relations on the development of College-wide publications (ex. the Toasty Telegram, holiday cards).
- Leads alumni-focused communications/storytelling (ex. alumni profile pieces).
- Pursues sponsorship opportunities for College-wide events and initiatives and develops sponsorship materials.
- Responsible for updating and maintaining donor and alumni database (Raiser’s Edge).
- Assists the Director of External Relations in organizing and executing alumni-focused initiatives (ex. alumni reunions, award presentations).
- Collaborates with the External Relations team on College-wide events and initiatives (ex. golf tournament, Stanley Knowles dinner/lecture, Giving Day).
- Other tasks, initiatives, and projects, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Undergraduate university degree in any subject area.
- 2+ years of experience in communications, inside or outside the post-secondary sector.
Skills:
- Ability to stay organized and prioritize multiple and competing demands is critical.
- Strong written communication skills are a necessity, including longer-form writing (ex. articles).
- Graphic design skills are an asset.
- Experience producing content for and maintaining social media accounts is an asset.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a small team, including task sharing and collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a defined reporting structure.
- Strong relationship building skills, including strong verbal communication.
- Competency in, or willingness and ability to learn, website content management systems.
