Nia Rajamohan: More Than a Dream Come True

Headshot of Nia
Nayani (Nia) Rajamohan graduated in 2016 with a Math/Business double degree from the UWaterloo and WLU. She spent a term at GreenHouse developing an idea for a social enterprise, based on her many years of South Indian classical dance.

In September 2016, she began what she calls her dream job as a consultant at Deloitte Canada, helping clients implement regulations. Her intention was always to work in her academic field: “You invest so much in your academic career, and it’s not something I wanted to let go.”

Despite the hectic pace of challenging work in a competitive field, Nia also continues with the company she started during her term at GreenHouse, Saakshi Innovations. In November, she organized a paid dance show at a seniors’ home, while this summer she plans to do a bigger performance.

Nia reflects on her time at GreenHouse as being very helpful in preparing for both ventures. Recently the vice president she works for said, “If you want to become a VP, you have to be an entrepreneur.”

For Nia it was good validation about her time at GreenHouse.

I know GreenHouse gave me the skills I need. As a VP, you negotiate deals and projects on behalf of the company, and this requires entrepreneurial skills. I also learned how to cope well with the unexpected and to work well in small teams, something I often need to do in my work as a consultant.”

She advises potential GreenHouse students to take the leap. “Everything contributes to whatever future direction you want to go in. The skills and experiences you gain will boost your résumé. It’s a great place for people who want to do something but don’t know where to start.”

She adds,

To have my dream job and a social venture is more than a dream come true.”
