The annual Stanley Knowles Dinner and Lecture, held on Saturday, November 30, at United College, brought together alumni, students, staff, and friends of the college for an evening of insightful dialogue and celebration. The event was a tribute to another successful year and a testament to the vibrant community spirit of the college.

The evening began with a dinner and awards ceremony, honouring the remarkable achievements of some of the College's outstanding community members.

Following the awards, the highlight of the night was a thought-provoking fireside chat moderated by United College Chancellor, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean. The discussion featured two distinguished speakers: Brian Bronfman, founder of the Peace Network for Social Harmony, and Amal Elsana Alh’jooj, an academic and activist and Founding Executive Director of the nonprofit organization PLEDJ (Promoting Leadership for Empowerment, Development, and Justice).

The panel explored the theme Pathways Towards Peace in the Middle East, offering diverse perspectives and actionable insights. Jean’s skilled moderation brought depth and clarity to the conversation, which resonated deeply with attendees and sparked meaningful exchanges during the Q&A session.

Principal Richard Myers shared his enthusiasm for the event, emphasizing its significance to the college community. “The Stanley Knowles Dinner is a wonderful opportunity for the broader United College community to come together for two distinct purposes: to recognize the contributions of students, staff, and alumni, and to engage in serious conversations about issues aligned with our mission and values. This event is tremendously enriched by the presence of our Chancellor, the Rt. Hon. Michaëlle Jean. She makes every guest feel special and is a superb, passionate discussion leader.”

The Stanley Knowles Dinner once again exemplified United College's commitment to celebrating excellence and fostering meaningful dialogue on critical global issues.
