United College recently opened its doors to welcome more than 100 prospective students, parents, and guardians for Fall Open House, one of the College’s largest and most engaging events of the year. The day offered future students a first-hand look at the dynamic community that defines United College, including tours of residence spaces, conversations with current students, and opportunities to meet staff and faculty members.

The College was filled with excitement and curiosity as visitors explored what makes United College a unique part of the University of Waterloo campus. From its strong sense of belonging to its commitment to social responsibility, the event showcased how United College supports students in both their academic and personal journeys.

Guests also had the opportunity to try several complimentary lunch options from Watsons, giving them an idea of what is in store for them should they join the community.

A major highlight of the day was the Human Rights program information session, led by Anna Purkey, Director of the Human Rights program. The session drew such a large crowd, reflecting a strong and growing interest among students in advocacy, social justice, and making an impact in their communities.

“This program offers students a really unique opportunity to study both law and human rights and to gain international experience. It is always so energizing to see how enthusiastic and curious our future students are,” Purkey said.

The unique collaboration with the University of Essex also sparked huge interest with those who attended the session.

Throughout the day, prospective students and their families also had the chance to learn about the College’s other academic offerings, residence life, and student support services. Faculty staff and student ambassadors were on hand to share their experiences and answer questions, helping visitors imagine what their own journey at United College might look like.

“Open House is a wonderful occasion to welcome prospective student to campus and have some very engaging conversations. I remember first meeting some of our students at Open House years ago; and these same students will soon be entering their final academic year. To witness that journey - from start to finish - is both humbling and inspiring,” Academic Dean John Abraham added.

The event concluded with a renewed sense of excitement for the year ahead. As the College continues to grow its programs and community engagement, Fall Open House stands as a reminder of the vibrant, values-driven students who are drawn to United College, students eager to learn, lead, and make a difference.
