International Development student Joseph Flores is the 2017 Alex Foto Memorial Award recipient. He receives $1,000 to support the costs of his fourth-year field placement in Ghana, where he is working with local communities who are trying to protect their watershed and water supply from environmental threats.

Libro Credit Union awarded $35,000 to St. Paul’s GreenHouse from its Prosperity Fund last Thursday, a program which recognizes initiatives that focus on regional economic development, money smarts, and youth leadership.

St. Paul’s University College is pleased to announce the appointment of JP Gladu as its next Chancellor. Mr. Gladu is the President and CEO of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB), one of Canada’s premier organizations for Indigenous entrepreneurs.

A new plant nursery, situated beside the original St. Paul’s community garden, was inaugurated at a reception on Friday, June 2. The plant nursery was funded by a Chartwells Campus Project grant, and will help increase the food output of the St. Paul’s community garden, now run by UW Campus Market Garden.

Marlena Books, a St. Paul's GreenHouse startup, won one of four big $25,000 Velocity Fund prizes up for grabs at the most recent competition. 

Marlena Books is a venture that was created by Rachel Thompson to help people with dementia and Alzheimer's keep mentally active through reading materials made specifically for them. 

 
St. Paul’s University College has launched a Booster Club for the women’s basketball team, as well as the St. Paul’s Women’s Basketball Excellence Awards, which will provide financial awards for members of this varsity team. The idea is for St. Paul’s to do its part in supporting UWaterloo varsity athletics by focusing its attention on one specific team.

Several St. Paul’s GreenHouse students received Social Impact Fund grants at the most recent Social Impact Showcase, held in Alumni Hall. All of the recipients were GreenHouse Fellows, winners of Big Ideas Challenge for Social Good whose GreenHouse accommodations were funded by the Libro Prosperity Fund.

Mechanical Engineering student Richard Yim, who started in the St. Paul’s GreenHouse program last fall and will be a GreenHouse Fellow in the spring term, won a total of $35,000 for his landmine defusing venture this week.
