In this hands-on workshop you will be introduced to the characteristics of a several common types of reviews used in biomedical and health research; including systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and narrative reviews. You will learn when and why to use and conduct these different forms of knowledge syntheses. You will also learn systematic search techniques that are considered the ‘gold standard’ components of the search methods used for systematic and scoping reviews and their associated reporting standards.

This session takes you beyond the basics of using the library catalogue and research guides. You will learn how to integrate and enhance your current research practices with resources and tools available from the University of Waterloo Library and open resources. Get set up early and see the benefits throughout your studies.

Take advantage of PubMed advanced search features to become a more effective and efficient searcher.  By the end of the workshop, you will be familiar with:

  • Advanced search methodologies and systematic search techniques
  • How to identify and use MeSH (Medical Subject Headings)
  • How PubMed works behind the scenes
  • Strategies for keeping current in your research field

Please bring a personal laptop to use during the workshop.
