The road to the world’s premier social impact entrepreneurship competition, the Hult Prize, begins next week on campus in Engineering 7. This competition is for any and all entrepreneurial students at Waterloo, A kick-off event on October 10 will present and explore this year’s challenge: to build startups that have a positive impact on our planet with every dollar earned.

This fall 2019 term, the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business is pleased to launch a new course for both undergraduate and graduate students all about consulting — a dynamic and in-demand skill-set and profession.

Tomorrow, ten student venture teams will compete to win one of four $5,000 CAD in prizes at the spring 2019 Velocity Fund $5K Finals. We are proud that four of these teams have founders who are enrolled in programs or who have taken courses at the Conrad School of Entrepreneurship and Business. This spring term, Enterprise Co-op students pitched for five prizes of $5,000 at the Ignition Week pitch competition. Each competing student had five minutes to pitch their venture to a panel of judges, followed by a three-minute question period. Meet the spring 2019 pitch winners!

CataLight, a University of Waterloo social impact startup shone brightly at the 2019 Rice Business Plan Competition (RBPC) competing head-to-head with students from the world’s top schools like MIT, Notre Dame, Penn State and Northwestern. After three days of competition, Co-founders Ashley Keefner, Ph.D., MBET and Kevin Dang, MBET advanced to the Final Round as one of only two Canadian teams competing, defeating 35 teams in the process.

Entrepreneurship and business competitions have and will continue to be, valuable learning experiences for student entrepreneurs.

The Hult Prize is the largest student social entrepreneurship competition in the world. Every year, the Hult organization challenges students to come up with entrepreneurial solutions for some of the most pressing social problems our world faces. Students from over 1000 universities globally are taking on this year’s challenge: to provide meaningful employment for 10,000 youth.
