Funding for Domestic Research Masters Students

Guaranteed funding

Incoming domestic research master's students in the Faculty of Environment are guaranteed $15,000 over the course of their program. This applies to full-time incoming students in good academic standing. Many students receive more than the minimum funding.

Funding packages for exceptional research masters students

Exceptional research masters students starting their studies in 2020 are eligible for the following funding packages.  

Academic Average of 85%+

  • Entrance award: $5,000 (split in Terms 1 and 2)
  • 3 TA positions (in terms 1,2, and 5) with a total value of approximately $23,400
  • In some cases, research supervisors will provide additional funding

The full package is worth approximately $28,400 across the two years of study. 

Academic Average between 80% and 84.5%

  • 3 TA positions (in terms 1,2, and 5) with a total value of approximately $23,400
  • In some cases, research supervisors will provide additional funding

The full package is worth approximately $23,400 across the two years of study.
 

Academic Average between 75% and 79.5%

  • 2 TA positions (Year 1) with a total value of approximately $15,600
  • In some cases, research supervisors will provide additional funding

The full package is worth approximately $15,600 across the two years of study.


Eligibility: Open to Canadian citizens (living in or outside of Canada) or Permanent Residents of Canada who apply before February 1, 2020. Must be enrolled in a research masters program full-time (Geography [thesis option], Sustainability Management, Planning [thesis option], Social and Ecological Sustainability [thesis option]). Academic average is calculated from your last two years of full-time study.
