Earlier in August, a delegation from the Faculty of Environment travelled to Bhubaneswar and Puri, India, to build capacity on climate change initiatives and partnerships. Dean Bruce Frayne shares the highlights from the delegation’s activities, including hosting a Climate Change Workshop for Journalists and a weeklong research retreat.
The new 2023 volume, CITES as a Tool for Sustainable Development, explores the legal aspects of implementing the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and Fauna (CITES) to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The volume is co-edited by a team of experts, including Michelle Anagnostou, PhD candidate and SSHRC Doctoral Fellow in the Department of Geography and Environmental Management.
The Department of Knowledge Integration hosted Shad Waterloo for Grade 10 and 11 students from across Canada. They tackled the question: How might we reimagine living spaces for people in Canada to make them more accessible, sustainable, and community-oriented? We joined this year's cohort at their final open-day event to see their proposed projects and ideas, and learn what they liked most about their experience.

We are pleased to announce five new appointments to the Faculty of Environment’s academic and administrative leadership: Dr. Chris Fletcher, chair in the department of Geography and Environmental Management (GEM), Dr. Katie Plaisance, chair in the Department of Knowledge Integration (KI), Dr. Mark Seasons, chair in the School of Planning, Dr. Derek Armitage, director in the School of Environment, Resources and Sustainability (SERS) and Dr. Jeffrey Wilson, director in the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development.
Three students took part on a lifetime field trip to Bali, Indonesia with Professor Doberstein. Come along with Bethany Elizabeth, and Katherine as they share why they wanted to join the field trip, what skills they developed and the impact the experience has left on them.
Congratulations to Professor Simron Singh who has been awarded a University Research Chair (URC) in recognition of his significant contributions as an industrial ecologist in the area of socio-metabolic research on small islands.
Students from the Faculty of Environment were second place winners at this year's Esri Canada GIS Centres of Excellence Competition (ECCE App Challenge). Congratulations to Ben Woodward, Paramvir Singh, and Gabriel Diniz!
