Hagey Lectures Committee

Opportunity type: Employment type:

The Hagey Lectures are the premier invitational lectures at the University of Waterloo. The distinguished lecture series was established in 1970 to honour the contribution of Dr. J.G. Hagey, one of the founders and first President (1957-1969) of the University of Waterloo.

The lectures are sponsored jointly by the Faculty Association and the University of Waterloo.

The Hagey Lectures are open to the public and are intended for the faculty, staff and students of the University of Waterloo and also for the community-at-large. It is hoped that the lectures will challenge, stimulate, and enrich all members of this community.

Vacancies are for representatives from: Engineering, Health and AFIW.

Appointment of Committee Members

  • To ensure that all Faculties and the Federated Universities and Affiliated Colleges are represented on the committee, the committee shall be composed of seven faculty members, one each appointed from a different Faculty and one member from the Federated Universities and Affiliated Colleges. It is most important to have enthusiastic and dedicated members on the committee.
  • The term of service for committee members shall normally be two to four years. A member who has served for four years must step down from the committee, unless appointed to the chair.
  • Members of the committee will be appointed by the President of FAUW in consultation with the Vice-President, Academic and Provost.

Appointment of Committee Chair

  • Since the Hagey Committee is a sub-committee of the Faculty Association, the chair will be appointed by the President of the Faculty Association in consultation with the Vice-President, Academic and Provost. The chair will normally be chosen from the present or former members of the Hagey Committee.
  • The term of the chair will normally be two years, although this may be extended to three years by the President of FAUW, in consultation with the Vice-President, Academic and Provost. A chair normally shall not serve for more than three years.
