Fall convocation celebrates 268 Faculty of Health graduating students
The Faculty of Health congratulated 268 new graduating students at the fall 2024 convocation ceremony, comprising 74 undergraduates, 181 Master’s and 13 PhDs.
During the ceremony, Waterloo’s 12th Chancellor, Dr. Jagdeep Singh Bachher (BASc '93, MASc '94, PhD '00), was installed, marking a new chapter in the University’s leadership. He brings a deep understanding of Waterloo values, global experience and a career in investment and leadership.
“Dr. Bachher has been a champion for change in the investment industry and gained an international reputation as an innovator,” said President Dr. Vivek Goel. “He is a leader who exemplifies the University of Waterloo spirit.”
The ceremony opened and closed with Indigenous Knowledge Keeper Myeengun Henry, who was recognized with an honorary degree.
“Elder Myeengun Henry’s experience in teaching through storytelling, presentations and gatherings, combined with his profound knowledge of Indigenous traditional medicine and ceremonies has had a transformative impact on countless individuals,” said Jean Becker, Associate Vice-President of the Office of Indigenous Relations. “His work highlights his commitment to advancing Indigenous education and promoting cultural understanding.”
An honorary degree is the highest honour conferred by the University, awarded to those who inspire and demonstrate exceptional service. Elder Myeengun works alongside the Office of Indigenous Relations toward reconciliation and is well known for his compassion, Indigenous ceremonies and teachings on campus. Earlier this fall, Elder Myeengun helped lead a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation recommitment ceremony as Waterloo pledged to continue their commitment to decolonization, Indigenization and reconciliation. He has led similar commitment ceremonies with the Faculty of Health.
Congratulations to the fall Class of ’24!
