UW library Ask us pageLibrary staff may not be here to help you with all our services in-person just yet, but we’re always here to help you online no matter what you need. The library offers a wide variety of support features and functions in order to better cater to your needs and provide you with support.

As a student studying online, I have found that the library is a one stop shop for the resources I need for school. Staring at a computer screen all day can be tiring, so if I can find what I need in one place and cut down my search time/screen time, it’s a win win for me! On the library’s main webpage, if you go to the “About the Library” function, you’ll find a variety of ways to stay up to date on all the library’s latest news and events. We also provide you with an “Ask Us” feature. This gives you access to a wide range of tools that can help you contact us. Amongst the options available, we provide a FAQ board, a text feature where you can text staff and ask any questions you may want/ need answered, as well as good old-fashioned email. Our email is monitored Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekends.

Chat with us featureAdditionally, we have a “Chat with us” feature on our main library webpage. The little yellow side bar that reads “chat” on our main web page allows you to type in any questions you may have. Our chat is “online” from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and weekends 12 p.m.to 9 p.m. Any questions that fall outside of these time ranges will be followed up with the next day during operating hours. Another online support we offer is the “librarian by subject” feature. This gives you direct access to your program-specific librarian, ranging from subjects in Spanish all the way to environmental studies. All subject librarians have their emails displayed so you can easily access them and shoot any questions you have their way. As a student myself, there have been times where I’ve had more questions than answers. This can get to be overwhelming at times, but I’ve found that reaching out to my librarian by subject can help ease my nerves and give me solid answers. Even if I just have smaller-scale questions related to references or citing I find that my librarian is always willing to help and guide me through any issues.
