Hi everyone, my name is Natasha, and I’m one of your Library Ambassadors this term. A fun fact about me is that this term was the first time I set foot on campus despite being in my second year of Biomedical Sciences. Being a Library Ambassador has been such a great experience because I’ve had the chance to discover the Library in-person and learn about the many resources it has to offer.
Today, I am going to share some of the unique resources offered by the Library. Whether your classes are online or in-person, these resources are available to you!
Criterion-on-Demand
Have you ever felt like watching a movie at home but aren’t subscribed to a streaming site? Criterion-on-Demand is the place for you! This streaming site will give you full access to over 3000 titles once you log in with your WatIAM credentials. My personal favourite movies available on the site include Wonder Woman and Shazam. As you can see, I like action movies but there are various genres to choose from, such as sci-fi, drama, comedy and more! If you prefer non-fiction, there is also a large selection of documentaries available. There’s truly something for everyone!
Online Learning Object Repository
The Online Learning Object Repository is another exciting resource that can be used for academic or interest purposes. It’s essentially a database with various types of media covering a wide range of topics, including videos, handouts, slide decks, infographics and podcasts. I’ve created a list of content that may be helpful or of interest to you, check it out:
- Identifying Primary, Secondary and Tertiary Sources
- Critical Appraisal in STEM
- Media Biases
- Identifying Peer Review Articles
- APA Style (7th Edition)
Additionally, if you’re looking for something specific, you can filter the content by audience, subject and learning resource type.
Research Guides
The last resource I’ll be talking about today is the research guides. This is an excellent resource when working on your next paper, lab report or research assignment! Each research guide provides students with links to databases, eBooks and other forms of media around a specific subject area that may be helpful when conducting research. Another feature of this resource that I find particularly helpful is the “Cite and Write” page (the page name may vary by research guide). This page contains links to citation style guides and resources to aid you in your writing. For instance, the mathematics guide includes links to an article about paraphrasing correctly and incorporating evidence into your writing effectively. Lastly, if you have additional questions or need support, the subject librarian’s contact information is provided in each guide.
I hope you found these resources helpful! Have a great rest of the term!
