Funding and Intellectual Property

Funding options are available from an increasing number of government programs focussed on strengthening university-industry collaborations. Funds are used for equipment as well as to support the work of faculty and graduate students. Some programs match industry contributions (cash or in kind), while others require no industry contribution at all.

Funding

The University of Waterloo has a flexible intellectual property (IP) policy intended to motivate original research while giving industry collaborators licensing rights to commercialize IP created by university-industry collaborations.

For more information on potential funding sources, technology transfer, and commercialization, please visit the University of Waterloo Office of Research page.
