Building on their session at the Staff and Advisor Conference, the presenters will speak to the complexities when thinking about the international student experience. Our international student population comes from over 100 different countries and brings with them unique experiences and perspectives that enrich our campus community and classroom environment.
During this session, we intend to address the following questions through enriched dialogue:
- Who are our international students? From visa status to language skills, what are the many nuances behind ‘international’?
- How do we learn from our diverse international population?
- What role does our campus community play in supporting international student success?
At the end of this session, participants will leave with an understanding of the varied international student experiences with the intention of supporting a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and acceptance

Home and Abroad Photo Contest
The Home and Abroad Photo Contest is a visual demonstration of student learning through study and work experiences, both in Canada and abroad. Engineering is home to hundreds of international students who represent numerous countries around the globe. In addition, each year many Waterloo Engineering students go abroad for enriching study and work experiences around the world. This online exhibition will be a collection of student photographs that will showcase the global perspective our students have gained through their travels and studies. Photos will be posted on Waterloo Engineering’s Facebook page, and Engineering students, faculty and staff will be invited to vote on their favourite photos. The top three photos will be printed and proudly displayed in the International Office area on the 7th floor of of E7.
Engineering students are invited to contribute original photos of their own personal journeys by submitting a photo and short description using the online form. Share your views on global citizenship, and participate in creating a global gallery.
