During Spring Term 2021, the Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, Instrumental Chamber Ensembles, and the UWaterloo Choirs online continued to meet. For our listening pleasure, they compiled videos of a few pieces. The video will premiere on Wednesday, August 11th at 12:30pm and remain online for a few weeks.
Full House Brass consists of five versatile and creative brass players: two trumpets, one French horn, and two trombones. Members Deb Lacoste, Dave Manning, Randi Patterson, Carolyn Culp, and Susan Follows also play individually with local orchestras and other brass groups. This concert will feature arrangements of dance music, including waltzes, tangos, polkas, a soft shoe, and more.
No matter your program, no matter your year, anyone can participate in music ensembles at Conrad Grebel University College at the University of Waterloo! Joining an ensemble is an ideal way for any student to keep music in their lives, especially those who are studying another subject and are craving musical opportunities.
Auditions for seven different Music Ensembles will start the first week of classes.
Congratulations to Jacquelyn Morley (Honours Music) on being this year’s recipient of the Departmental Award for Distinguished Academic Achievement in Music for the graduating class of 2020.
We regret to inform you that we have decided to postpone the February 2022 Concerto & Aria Competition to February 2023. The first Covid shutdown occurred shortly after the 2020 competition, so we have not had a chance for the winners from that competition to perform with the orchestra. Given the uncertainty surrounding the current covid situation, the Music Department in
END OF TERM CONCERTS are an important part of Ensembles that we have really been missing, so towards that end we are holding a virtual concert. The Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, Chapel Choir, Choirs@UWaterloo, Integrated Instrumental Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble will all be participating. Stay tuned for further details.
If you want to see a Grebel musical like no other, this is definitely your chance to do so. So many members of the community have come together to put together a show that will exceed what many would think possible during a pandemic.
Music plays an important role in the Conrad Grebel University College community, allowing audiences and musicians to share and experience stories told through song and the hearts of passionate artists. After a successful Noon Hour Concert Series@Home in the fall, Grebel’s concerts will continue in the same format this winter 2021 term.
