Instrumental Chamber Ensembles - Winter 2024

These musicians perform a wide variety of classical music from all time periods. Instrumentalists will be placed in small groups of approximately 3 to 8 players based on compatible abilities. A wide variety of instruments are welcome including woodwinds and brass, but particularly strings and piano.  Instrumental Chamber Ensembles meet at different times during the week, depending on the schedule of the members of each ensemble.  Acceptance into the Instrumental Chamber Ensembles is by audition and at the discretion of the director, Ben Bolt-Martin.

1.  Participant form
To participate in and Instrumental Chamber Ensemble you need to fill out the Participant Form every term.  There is no LEARN for Ensembles, so this is a crucial step.  Please email Angelica Allen, Ensemble Coordinator to inquire about ICE options or if you have other questions.

2. Audition
All new Instrumental Chamber Ensemble members need to audition. Auditions will take place on May 9 and May 13 in room 1209, from 10:00am to 12 noon. The auditions are 10 minutes each. Please prepare one fast and one slow movement you know well. You do not have to memorize the pieces. The audition link will be sent once you fill out the Participant form.  Returning members need to email Ben Bolt Martin to indicate they would like to return, and fill out the Participant form.

3. Quest
Register on Quest if you are taking the Ensemble for credit.  Please note that MUSIC 416 and 417 have been added to the Ensemble Course list.  Also note it is your responsibility to drop the course on Quest if you do not pass the audition or choose not to participate.  An Ensemble credit is 0.25 units AND you can add this on a normal course load or ask your advisor for permission to override your course limit.   There is a $30 fee for students who are not taking the Ensemble for credit, and non-students will be charged a $60 fee.
