After over 38 years with the University of Waterloo, Dr. Marlee Spafford is retiring.

"Marlee has shown passion and dedication to the profession of optometry, the University and all our students for 38 years,” says Dr. Stanley Woo, director of the University of Waterloo School of Optometry & Vision Science. “We will miss her quick humour, calm presence, professionalism and above all, her compassion.”

Waterloo researcher Jennifer Hunter is using a non-invasive fluorescence imaging tool to investigate ocular diseases and vision loss.

Connor Kapahi  and Dusan Sarenac from the Institute for Quantum Computing and Dr. Dmitry Pushin from the Faculty of Science, for receiving the Gold Award and $10K in funding to further develop their project Entangled Vision: Quantum Probes for Retinal Diagnostics.

February is Low Vision Month, a month that brings awareness to any incurable visual impairment that can negatively impact everyday life and make regular activities difficult to do.

Congratulations to Drs. Ben Thompson, Lisa Christian, and Marlee Spafford of the School of Optometry, along with Kerstin Dautenhahan of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. This team of interdisciplinary collaborators have been awarded $25k from the Graham Seed Fund for their vision robotics research.

Another year, another Corneal Cup, as the Unicorneas take the top prize. This past Saturday the team of fourth year optometry students dominated the annual optometry hockey tournament.
