Waterloo Pharmacy’s Reunion 2018 brought alumni and friends back to Kitchener for two events. On Friday Sept. 21, alumni, students, faculty, and staff competed in trivia at McCabe’s Irish Pub and Grill, and on Saturday Sept. 22, leaders in pharmacy practice and research delivered continuing education talks. The event was held alongside the University of Waterloo’s Reunion weekend.

In March, two Waterloo Pharmacy students moved from Kitchener to Manitoulin Island where they joined health care teams for their six-month clinical placements. The rotation would be the last hurdle of their pharmacy education.

Co-op is what makes Waterloo Pharmacy unique: we’re the only co-operative education pharmacy school in Canada. Offering a co-op program is challenging and requires the support of the pharmacist community all across the country. Without employers to consistently hire students and offer invaluable learning opportunities, our program would not be possible.

On June 13, Waterloo Pharmacy instructor Elaine Lillie was recognized with the Association of Faculties of Pharmacies of Canada (AFPC) National Award for Excellence in Education. Lillie is Waterloo Pharmacy’s Director of Interprofessional Education and Curriculum Development and has been an instructor in the program since the School opened in 2008.

Each year Waterloo Pharmacy presents an award for Co-op Supervisor of the Year. The award recognizes a supervisor who has shown outstanding commitment to mentorship of Waterloo Pharmacy students on co-operative education work terms.

Waterloo Pharmacy Hallman Director David Edwards was awarded the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) Honorary Life Award this June in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was one of several award winners at the CPhA annual conference. The School of Pharmacy was also celebrated by CPhA with a Certificate of Recognition in acknowledgement of the School’s 10^th anniversary.

A project manager who didn’t plan on becoming Waterloo Pharmacy’s first Hallman Director. A mayor who didn’t expect to lead Kitchener city council in providing 30 million dollars and 8 acres of land to the University of Waterloo. Students who took a chance on a program with no building, six faculty members, and Canada’s first co-operative education pharmacy program.
