Smiling pharmacy students and faculty at the OPA conferenceStudents, alumni, and faculty of Waterloo Pharmacy had a strong showing at the Ontario Pharmacists Association (OPA) 2018 conference. The OPA conference is an annual meeting that brings together more than 500 pharmacists from across Ontario and features presentations on best practices and emerging trends in pharmacy. Waterloo Pharmacy faculty, alumni, and students were among this year’s presenters and award winners.

Each year Waterloo Pharmacy presents an award for Co-op Supervisor of the Year. The award recognizes a supervisor who has shown outstanding commitment to mentorship of Waterloo Pharmacy students on co-operative education work terms.

David Edwards Waterloo Pharmacy Hallman Director David Edwards was awarded the Canadian Pharmacists Association (CPhA) Honorary Life Award this June in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He was one of several award winners at the CPhA annual conference. The School of Pharmacy was also celebrated by CPhA with a Certificate of Recognition in acknowledgement of the School’s 10th anniversary.

A project manager who didn’t plan on becoming Waterloo Pharmacy’s first Hallman Director. A mayor who didn’t expect to lead Kitchener city council in providing 30 million dollars and 8 acres of land to the University of Waterloo. Students who took a chance on a program with no building, six faculty members, and Canada’s first co-operative education pharmacy program.

The School of Pharmacy is pleased to announce Jeff Wong as the first recipient of the Pharmacy Alumni Achievement Award. Jeff graduated in 2011 from the School of Pharmacy as part of the vanguard class. After graduation, he undertook a primary care residency at the University Health Network in Toronto. He also earned his PharmD through the School’s bridging program in 2016.
