My thesis
My dissertation focuses on social isolation and loneliness in older adults. A community engagement effort was initiated to codevelop targeting strategies and mapping resources that can be used in response. Using interRAI data, we have identified loneliness and social isolation as areas of concern within the Ontario Home Care population. This presented an avenue to explore the associated health behaviours and outcomes, adding to the sparse literature regarding relationships between loneliness and social isolation and mortality. We then created an inventory of social resources that can be used to target loneliness or social isolation in community-dwelling older adults. This project includes and expands on efforts by one region to identify and respond to loneliness and social isolation with available community resources.
My time in the School of Public Health Sciences (SPHS)
My time at SPHS was challenging yet very rewarding. Interacting with faculty and other students presented opportunities for learning and teaching that enabled personal growth in ways I did not see possible before beginning graduate school.
