Carter Kirilenko
Carter Kirilenko, a recent graduate of the Environment and Business program, set out to explore the link between the annual peat fires in Indonesia and a commonly used ingredient: palm oil.

In partnership with the University of Waterloo, Carter directed and produced an environmental documentary titled: In Your Palm. Awarded “Best Short Documentary,” at the Toronto Independent Film Festival it is also nominated as a Finalist at the Student World Award.

In Your Palm draws attention to the unsustainable production of palm oil and its ecological impacts on the supply of clean air and water.

With its production spanning two years and five countries, Carter has captured the stories of the brave souls who have been fighting for their rights to these basic resources, by spreading awareness about this raging problem.

Steven Young and Jennifer Lynes Murray, professors in the School of Environment, Enterprise and Development (SEED) and Daniel Murray, SEED instructor, were instrumental in Carter's success by providing guidance and encouragement.
