Life as an AFM Student
Hi everyone! My name’s Rebecca
When I first entered the AFM program, I had a few close friends with me from high school that helped make the transition a lot easier by taking some of the nerves away. Not only could I ask them for help, but they were a great support as I was living away from home. Despite having some old friends, I still found it very easy to make new ones! Whether it was sitting next to someone new in class, joining clubs, or hanging out at the pool tables at MKV, I found everyone welcoming and kind.
Within SAF I found many opportunities. I joined various clubs such as the Accounting and Finance Association (AFSA) and UW DECA. These clubs not only helped develop my soft skills like leadership and organization through event planning, but I also had the opportunity to connect with upper years in the same clubs. Upper years were my best resource as they understood what it was like being in my shoes and helped push me towards opportunities I may not have seized on my own.
While university may look a bit different now, that doesn’t mean the opportunities aren’t there. Clubs are still running, upper years still love giving advice, and the AFM program is ready to welcome more amazing students! I can’t wait to see you all on campus one day!
