Covid-19 Updates for SAF Faculty and Staff

  • Until further notice, Waterloo employees are instructed to work from home. People in roles that leaders deem essential to the ongoing and safe operation of our campus should report to work.
    If a role is essential to the continuing operation of the University people should report to work and follow public health guidance for social distancing and cleaning protocols.
    Please keep in contact with your Manager.
  • Most University of Waterloo buildings to be closed starting Tuesday March 24, at 4:30pm
  • The following buildings will be open for student access from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday:

    • E7
    • QNC
    • M3

  • SAF co-op students:

    • As a hired staff member of SAF for your W20 co-op work term, you are instructed to work from home. Work with your immediate Manager to ensure that you have the tools and resources you require to effectively work from home.

      The SAF acknowledges that you may have additional questions as a co-op student during this time. Please refer to the co-op section of the Coronavirus Information site. If you have additional questions, please connect with your Manager.

Instructors

    • After consulting with the academic planning team and the faculty deans, I am directing that course evaluations will continue where possible.
    • The data generated by te course evaluations will only be provided to the course instructor.
    • The course evaluation results for W2020 will not be seen by your chairs/directors or others unless you voluntarily share it. This means that the data will no be used in your evaluations (e.g. APR and T&P) unless you volunteer this information. In those cases where chairs, directors and deans may have already received some course evaluation information I am asking that they disregard it.
    • We want to ensure that students have the opportunity to provide formative feedback, while also providing the opportunity for instructors to share the information for evaluative purposes at their discretion.

COVID-19 Expert Commentators Listing

The University of Waterloo’s University and Media Relations is sending a COVID-19 Expert Commentators listing to Waterloo’s media contacts each morning. The listing includes a brief description of the area of expertise for each faculty member as it pertains to COVID-19 and their email address. If media is interested in interviewing the faculty member, they will connect with directly via email with the faculty member.

SAF has two faculty members listed, but if you are available and willing to speak with media, please connect with Kaitlin O'Brien to add you to the listing.

James R. Thompson: Professor Thompson teaches finance in the School of Accounting and Finance. Professor Thompson can speak about banks and financial markets in general and as they pertain to COVID-19 more specifically.  He can also speak about the role of insurance versus governments when it comes to bearing risk such as that presented by COVID-19.

Andrew Bauer: Canada Research Chair (in Taxation, Governance and Risk) and Assistant Professor, School of Accounting and Finance. Professor Bauer can comment on the use of tax incentives to encourage behaviour or tax relief to lessen financial burden, including measures enacted in Canada following national or global crises.
