On 25 October 2016, the Board of Governors approved new Policy 42 - Prevention and Response to Sexual Violence and on 2 December 2016 the Board of Governors approved the accompanying Sexual Violence Response Protocol and Procedures. For more information please see the most recent Policy Post.
On 10 November 2016, University Secretary & General Counsel Logan Atkinson was a panelist at the HeForShe IMPACT 10x10x10 session on academic university governance. He shared the stage with William Watson (chair of the Board of Governors), Sandra Banks (Vice-President, University Relations), and Sally Gunz (president of the faculty association). Logan briefly spoke to aspects of governance and leadership within an academic university setting and fielded questions on the relationship between collegial governance and governance understood in formal legal terms.
Karen Jack, Emily Schroeder, Mike Grivicic and Nadia Singh, all members of the Secretariat Group in the Secretariat & Office of General Counsel, attended the annual meeting of the Council of Ontario University Secretaries (COUS) held in Toronto on 25 October 2016. At the meeting, Mike was elected vice chair of the COUS for a one year term beginning 1 July 2017, Karen made a presentation on the use and application of technology in Secretariat practice, and Nadia was a member of a panel on policy management.
Logan Atkinson, University Secretary & General Counsel, was a panelist at breakfast meetings in Kitchener/London hosted by the Institute of Corporate Directors, Southwestern Ontario Branch.
The panel focused on fiduciary responsibilities of Board members serving not-for-profit organizations.
