1. Purpose

The purpose of the Member Advisory Committee is to review member cases to ensure support, guidance, and advocacy are in place for UWSA members.

2. Mandate

The Member Advisory Committee will:

  • support the UWSA Staff Advocacy Officer (SAO) in managing member advisory cases;
  • give in-depth strategic consideration to member advisory cases;
  • consider the implications of UW policies and guidelines on staff working conditions;
  • ensure all members have support: committee members may be called upon to support and advocate for individual members when contacted directly or when the SAO has a conflict;
  • ensure that the UWSA possesses the required skills and competencies to effectively support its members; and
  • act in alignment with all applicable UW and UWSA policies and guidelines.

3. Reporting relationships

The Member Advisory Committee reports through its chair to the UWSA president. The committee will provide a brief report by September each year on its activity over the previous fiscal year (ending April 30), for inclusion in the annual report to the membership.

4. Membership

The Members' Advisory Committee consists of:

  • UWSA Staff Advocacy Officer (ex officio)
  • UWSA President (ex officio)
  • UWSA Past-President (ex officio)
  • UWSA President-elect (ex officio)

The President or Staff Advocacy Officer may choose to invite a resource person as required to meetings

5. Chair

The Staff Advocacy Officer will serve as chair.

6. Records

No minutes are kept; the Staff Advocacy Officer shall document cases as appropriate.

7. Meetings

The committee will normally meet once a week. A quorum will be the Staff Advocacy Officer plus two additional members.

8. Appointment

All Members are ex officio.
