Director

Matthew GrantPronouns: he/him

About Matt: I have a BA in English & Film Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, an MA in Cinema Studies from the University of Toronto, and a Master of Library & Information Science from Western University. Prior to my time at Waterloo, I worked as a Senior Library Assistant at the Kitchener Public Library and in a Collections Management co-op position for the University of Regina's Archer Library. I'm currently a Prospect Research Officer with the Office of Advancement on campus. In my personal life, I enjoy watching movies, playing board games and baking bread.

Reason for running: I wanted to join the Board of Directors to help steward our collective goals, engage with the greater university community, and help make our workplace a better, more equitable environment for everyone. The more time I spend on campus, the more I recognize UWSA’s vital role in materially improving working conditions for members and staff, their essential advocacy on the issues that concern us as employees, and their function as a support system and network that connects and protects us all. I'm excited to contribute to this vital organization during my term as Director.

Vision for the UWSA: I want to see the UWSA continue to build on the solidarity and momentum that has drawn me to get involved with the organization since I joined as a staff member. I'd like to see us continue evolving to meet the needs of our members, including those who have traditionally been excluded from representation. I want to build a better, more resilient, equitable and respected environment for staff to have their voice heard and, more importantly, to have their concerns addressed.
