Teaching
At the Stratford School of Interaction Design and Business, our focus is digital media in teaching and research. We are leading an evolution in learning and career preparation. Students at the undergraduate and graduate levels will be immersed in a rich, technology-driven environment where theory and practice, science and commerce, creativity and innovation merge to forward digital media.
As a teaching and research intensive university, the University of Waterloo and the Stratford School believe in the integration of "knowing" and "learning." You can expect a rich learning experience incorporating team- and project-based learning, scholarship, research, innovation in classroom teaching, experiential learning and industry mentorship.
Your professors come from academia and industry, collaborating with research libraries, other academic institutions and industry partners. These connections play a key role in ensuring the relevance of our curricula and of your skills as a graduate.
At the Stratford School, we offer an enriched learning environment with our state-of-the-art media lab and unique learning space.

Research
The core value proposition of Stratford School research is the aggregator model. It’s a model that connects industry to the University. By bringing together opportunities for strategic, forward-looking research in the digital media space, the Stratford School works with industry partners to find independent content creators, digitizers, and disseminators to foster new research in the field of digital and new media and the arts.
The research could explore how we:
- Change the way we use existing technology;
- Find solutions for digital challenges within existing companies, products and services;
- Create cultural and artistic expressions using novel technological applications;
- Discover new applications for technology in varying vertical markets;
- Explore the dissemination of cultural content through digital media;
- Identify unique uses for emerging technology;
- Develop novel digital media tools, art, processes, thinking or services; and
- Commercialize products or begin new ventures.
