Capturing the student life

Experiencing the beauty of Waterloo’s campus for the first time is something I will never forget, and for the UWaterloo students on exchange from around the world, it's something they can attest to.

Current exchange students were asked to send in photos of their experiences in Waterloo as part of the exchange student photo contest hosted by Waterloo International and the Student Success Office. We wanted them to showcase their unique experiences on campus and in Canada. The first place winner will win a Polaroid camera to continue capturing their adventures. The top five photos were selected from over 40 wonderful submissions, and it was difficult to choose just five. Below are the top five photos and descriptions of the students' experiences in Canada.

Carl Ederly submission

Carl Edery of the Universite Claude Bernard Lyon 1

Hiking in Kelso with ICSN is obviously something to do. The fall colors are amazing, we love UWaterloo and all its events!”

Claudia Nurse submission

Claudia Nurse of the University of Leeds, SECOND PLACE

One of the things that I miss from home is the view that I had every night of the sunset from my window. After only a few days of living in Waterloo I was greeted by one of the most beautiful skies I have seen.”

Matthew Badge submissionMatthew Badger of the University of Sheffield

I came here not knowing anyone and this photo is of out ultimate frizbee intramurals team, We Don't Even Go Here. Everyone in the photo is now a friend for life and the fact we made play offs at the end shows we work together well. This is why I'm enjoying the year so much these people that always make me laugh and smile (I'm the ginger at the back).”

Sarra Fethi submissionSarra FETHI of the université Pierre et Marie Curie, THIRD PLACE

A beautiful and peaceful afternoon on the shore of Columbia Lake.”

Shi Chun Goh submissionShi Chun Goh of the National University of Singapore, FIRST PLACE

One of the favourite pastimes students can adopt in University of Waterloo is admiring or even picking fallen maple leaves during autumn. When fall arrives, the campus bursts into a splendor of colors that makes walking to classes so much more therapeutic. Featured in this photo is a collection of leaves I had picked up on my way to classes, arranged in the colors of the rainbow!”

We would like to say thank you to everyone who participated in the photo contest and extend our congratulations to the winners!

First Place: Shi Chun Goh

Second Place: Claudia Nurse

Third Place: Sarra FETHI
