Achieving a carbon neutral world seems like a daunting task – but companies like Sweat Free Apparel are bringing us one step closer to carbon neutrality through the creation of carbon neutral products, like face masks. Even better, they are doing it close to home – right here in Waterloo, Ontario!

The Sustainability Action Fund has granted funding for two new projects on campus in spring 2020. These projects will help build a more sustainable campus through a comprehensive audit of all University of Waterloo facilities and the launch of new e-waste collection stations across campus.

The Sustainability Action Fund has granted funding for two new projects on campus in spring 2019. Led by a variety of departments at UW, these projects will help reduce waste and energy consumption throughout the campus. The funding will also support Waterloo as host of the Conference on Sustainability in Engineering.

Students across the Region attended the Waterloo-Wellington Science and Engineering Fair (WWSEF) yesterday, an annual event that brings together young scientific minds in the region to compete and participate in exciting activities. As part of the event, over 200 students participated in the Energize: Sustainable City Challenge, a tool for students to improve their energy literacy, understand the complexity of climate change and decision-making for climate targets, and gain resources to become sustainability champions in Waterloo Region.

I am pleased to share the University of Waterloo’s 2016 Environmental Sustainability Report.

Each year, Waterloo publishes a summary of the actions that students, staff and faculty have taken across campus to reduce our environmental impact. From new research projects to student events to ongoing changes to policy and practice, it is inspiring to see the dedication and involvement of so many people in our University community.

From March 30^th until April 21^st, the Office of Sustainability hosted the Green Office Energy Challenge for all green offices across campus to participate.

On Thursday, April 20^th, the Sustainability Office and Climate Action Waterloo Region hosted two high school groups – Resurrection and St. David’s - from the WCDSB for the Energize: Sustainable City Challenge. The day was filled with discussion, idea-generation, and problem-solving to showcase the students’ vision for a sustainable Waterloo Region!

On April 18^th, the University of Waterloo and the Kitchener Public Library, in association with Power Shift Waterloo Region, hosted its Public Lecture: Transforming Energy in Waterloo Region. There were over 140 people who filled up the auditorium to hear what the future holds for sustainability and energy in the Region.

Today, the University of Waterloo released its 2015 Environmental Sustainability Report.  This year's report focuses on case studies and progress in academics, operations, and engagement.

The David Johnston Research + Technology Park (R+T Park) University of Waterloo and its tenants have committed to a Greenhouse Gas Reduction Target through Sustainable Waterloo Region’s Regional Carbon Initiative (RCI).
