GreenHouse is a social impact incubator for students and community members who want to create social or environmental change. We train students to develop entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial knowledge, skills, and mindsets and help them build their professional networks. Every term, our team delivers the Social Innovators in Training program and community innovation challenges through the Changemaker Labs program. GreenHouse also manages the Social Impact Fund, which provides seed funding to advance the creation and launch of student-led programs, products, services, ventures and other social change initiatives. At the end of every term, we host the Social Impact Showcase to celebrate the accomplishments of our students.

What Impact do GreenHouse students make?
Health and Wellbeing
Transition Space
While working on a challenge proposed by KidsAbility, this team learned that for youth with disabilities, the transition to adulthood is complicated by aging out of the centralized pediatric support system. To address this gap in the system, they designed Transition Space, an online resource hub to help youth navigate the adult disability support system. Transition Space ensures that all young people are equipped with the resources, skills, and information necessary for a healthy transition into adulthood. Transition Space was recently recognized with a Canada SDG Youth Award for their work advocating for Quality Education.

Lunaria
Cassie joined GreenHouse passionate about the power of inclusion and equity, with the idea of teaching leadership development to girls. When she realized that the value of her idea was its ability to measure impact, she pivoted her venture and founded Lunaria Solutions. Lunaria helps companies flourish by providing diversity, equity, and inclusion solutions that put people first and drive real returns. Cassie believes that data management and analytics can help hold organizations accountable and guide them through the process of increasing their EDI practices. In 2020, Cassie was recognized as one of 50 changemakers in the Globe and Mail's Report on Business.

3cycle
As an avid 3D printer, Jason noticed that he was accumulating piles of waste that couldn't be disposed of through traditional recycling systems. In fact, 7.1 million kilograms of 3D printed waste is sent to landfills each year, in the US alone. To address the 3D printing waste problem, he founded 3cycle. 3cycle is a social enterprise that introduces localized circular supply chains that transform plastic waste into new filaments that can be sold for re-use. 3cycle is currently piloting with collection bins spread across 25 locations in the Waterloo Region!
